What is a Fresh 48 newborn photography session?
A Fresh 48 newborn photography session is a lifestyle session done at the hospital or place of birth within the first 48 hours of your baby’s life. They capture all the emotions of meeting your baby for the first time and the whole family welcoming the new addition!
When should I book my Fresh 48 photography session?
Unless you have a planned C-section, we don’t know when your baby will arrive; and even then, baby might have a different plan! For this reason booking your Fresh 48 newborn session 2 or 3 months in advance is best. Since I am on call for these Fresh 48 hospital sessions, I only book a handful of them a month, so booking in advance will secure your spot on my calendar.
I will have a C-section, can I still have a Fresh 48 photography session?
Absolutely! Depending on the situation, or how long your stay at the hospital is, we can schedule your portrait session for the last day you will be there. Most new moms do fine on the second day though. If it’s hard for you to walk around I will make it work and get beautiful images of you and your baby while sitting on the bed or where you feel most comfortable. This is still part of your newborn's story and your journey as a mom so it has to be documented and celebrated as well! We are strong warriors!
What happens if my baby is in the NICU?
While this doesn’t happen often, we will always have a plan B. Typically newborn twins spend some time in the NICU and with my twin moms, I try to work out a plan beforehand. Ask if your newborn photographer can be allowed in the NICU or if baby needs to stay longer than your stay, we can always switch to a welcome home newborn lifestyle session or studio session.
How long is the Fresh 48 Newborn photography session?
This session is normally done in 45-60 minutes depending on your baby’s cues. Some babies need more feeding time or some extra time to settle and it is totally fine.
How far do you travel for your Fresh 48 Newborn sessions?
I don’t have a limit of distance here in NJ or NYC but if the session will take place further than 20 miles radius from my studio, a travel fee will apply.
What is the editing style for this session?
This session documents an amazing milestone for you and your family. It tells your baby’s story and my focus is on emotions and connections with your new baby. Heavy editing would take away from this. I do some light skin editing and minor retouching. I understand that moms are self conscious about being swollen from labor so I pose and use the most flattering angles when I shoot.
I won’t have my baby at a hospital, can I still book a Fresh 48 session?
Yes!!! This session is done at any place of birth! This is about the first 48 hours of your baby’s life and his baby’s story, documenting where your baby was born is very important to tell this story
What should I wear for my baby's Fresh 48 photography session?
I always recommend to stick with neutral tones and a very relaxed look. Anything with bright colors or patterns or big logos will take away from the emotion and the main focus which is your baby. Almost half of these images will be in Black and white and sometimes big patterns or logos are very distracting. Absolutely no red clothes! You baby skin will be most likely with red tones the first few days after being born. Red clothes will enhance this redness and it is very hard to edit .
Are family/sibling photos included in a Fresh 48 Hospital Session?
Yes! Bring grandparents as well if you wish to do so! I always tell my clients that I will do my regular workflow and then everybody is welcome to take their photos with your baby! Siblings are usually first since most parents would like to capture the first time they meet and if they are toddlers we always want to photograph them when they are happy and not over-stimulated after 45 minutes in a small room.
Is there any newborn posing or props included?
There is no baby posing or props in this session. I usually bring headbands or maybe a bonnet to use if parents wish to do so. If you would like posed newborn images, please book a newborn studio session. I offer a bundle discount for booking both Fresh 48 and a studio session. Contact me for more information.
How many images will my Fresh 48 gallery have?
Newborn Fresh 48 session galleries typically have 45-60 images to choose from. We will go through them at your reveal ordering appointment when you will choose your favorites to customize your digital package or heirloom products.
